Here’s my new song – “After The Fall”. The song that came from a dream I had two years ago. The vivid dream had all that’s needed to tell a story – a beginning, middle and end, characters and a narrator. I wrote down everything I could remember, thinking that one day that I might make a song from the dream.

 It also occurred to me at the time that the dream and its images had to do with my memories of the 9-11 tragedy. Since then I’ve realized that the dream had also given me a glimpse of an important experience. ”After The Fall” is my testament to that experience.

I’ve been working on the next song called “After The Fall” for two years. It began with a vivid dream about being trapped inside a tall building about to fall. It was one of those long-lasting dreams that have a beginning, middle and end. I woke up afterwards and vowed to write it all down – which I did.

There was no doubt to my waking mind what the dream was about, and I carefully wrote down every image and event just as they happened in dream time.

I read what I had written down over and over again to relive and understand the dream events. I wasn’t sure if what I had could be made into song lyrics. But the words I had written slowly took shape as a song.

Then I put the lyrics away and didn’t look at them for a long time – letting them work in the unconscious. Several times over the next year-and-a-half, I would take the lyrics out of the folder, read them, add or change a word here and there, and then file the lyrics away for the next time.

A couple of months ago, I decided I would finish the song and record it before September 2010. I found a way to play the song that works for the lyrics and works for me. So the recording of “After The Fall” should be finished in the next couple of weeks and be one this site before September.

All right! Here’s the long awaited (by me, anyway) release of another song called “Daddy’s Little Girl” - a young man’s tale of chance, love and life.

Turns out the arrangement I ended up using in the end is the very basic vocal-guitar-drums.

This song is taking more time to get recorded than I had imagined. Maybe it’s all the summer distractions I’m letting myself get involved including working on the house and writing and editing other songs at the same time as I’m trying different combinations on this recording. I think I’m getting closer.

At this point I don’t see any advantages in continuing to make podcast versions of these songs. Podcasters, if you’re reading and listening, please contact me for versions that can fit your format.

Okay, so I’ve finally got this song finished and ready to podcast below. “Man Of The Family” is a song from the point-of-view of a 14-year-old, recent, homeless boy who tells his story.

I’m mixing down a new song – “Man Of The Family”. It should be ready for podcasting in a day or two. The song’s told from the point-of-view of Jimmy Valentine, a 14-year old homeless boy. Although it might sound like a weepy folk song, it turns out to be more uptempo.

Jimmy tells his story with a hint of defiance, and the chorus kicks in with Jimmy’s answer to his situation.

I first tried recording the song as a guitar-vocal. I didn’t like how spare it sounded, so I added drums. The drums help drive the song, but don’t detract from the stripped-down feeling I wanted the song to have.
